The essential object of criminal law is to protect society against criminals and the people who break laws. Criminal law consists of substantive criminal law which defines offences and prescribes punishments for the same and the procedural criminal law is to administer the substantive law. Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 came into force from 1st April, 1974. It controls and regulates the working of the machinery set up for the investigation and trial of offence. The basic purpose of the Cr.P.C is to give an accused person a fair trial and speedy information. It also give fair deal to the poorer section of the society.
